AJR
AJR
"Formed in 2005, New York City-based indie pop trio AJR mix barbershop harmonies, electronic music, and other styles into their eclectic sound. AJR feature the talents of the Met brothers, Adam (vocals/bass), Jack (vocals/guitar), and Ryan (guitar/piano/vocals), who grew up in New York and got their start busking around the city, covering songs by such bands as Fun., Vampire Weekend, and the Beach Boys. A link to one of the band's videos caught the ear of Australian pop singer Sia Furler, whose manager put the band in contact with former Columbia president Steve Greenberg. Greenberg then signed on as AJR's manager, and in 2013 the trio released their debut independent single "I'm Ready." Well-received, the single peaked at number 27 on the Billboard Mainstream Top 40 chart, and appeared on an initial EP as well as the band's 2015 full-length debut album, Living Room. The single "Weak" followed in 2016, reaching number eight on the U.S. Billboard Dance Club chart and achieving platinum status. It was included on AJR's sophomore full-length, 2017's The Click, which also featured the single "Drama" and the track "Sober Up" with Weezer's Rivers Cuomo. Following an expanded deluxe edition of The Click in 2018, the brothers returned in early 2019 with the bouncy "100 Bad Days" single. Another single -- titled "Birthday Party" -- followed in March 2019. Both tracks were included on third LP Neotheater, which arrived the following month." - Matt Collar, AllMusic
Quinn XCII
Quinn XCII
2019 has been a breakout year for Detroit singer/songwriter, Quinn XCII (pronounced Quinn 92). With his ability to seamlessly blur the lines between pop, electronic, hip-hop, and soul music, he has quickly paved his own lane with his unique sound.

After two independently released EP’s in 2015 and 2016, Change of Scenery and Bloom, Quinn XCII quickly began building an organic, dedicated fanbase around the world. Shortly after it was his featured vocals on longtime collaborator and childhood friend ayokay’s single “Kings of Summer” that brought helped bring him into the mainstream. The song spent weeks at #1 on Spotify’s Global Viral Charts, where it currently has over 80 million streams. For the rest of 2016 and 2017, Quinn continued building his name on the road, touring heavily across the country while releasing new music.

Quinn XCII’s debut album The Story of Us, was released on September 15, 2017 via Columbia Records. The album peaked at #6 on iTunes’ Pop Chart and is led by his standout single “Straightjacket,” which was named SoundCloud’s “Song of the Month” and has accumulated more than 80 million streams on Spotify (where he also has over 800 million total catalogue streams). Following the success of the album he finished two completely sold-out nationwide headline tours in Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 selling over 60,000 tickets. He also went on his first headline tours in Europe and Australia, and went on an extensive festival run in the summer of 2018 including highlights such as Lollapalooza (Chicago), Governors Ball (NYC), and Outside Lands (SF).

Earlier this year Quinn released his sophomore album From Michigan With Love, and embarked on his biggest world tour to date to support the project. In the Spring he featured on “Love Me Less” with singer/songwriter MAX, which reached #17 at Top 40 Radio and was performed on Jimmy Kimmel, The Today Show, and more. He followed the summer hit up with “Stacy”, the first single off his forthcoming album, releasing in the Spring of 2020.
Hobo Johnson & The Lovemakers
Hobo Johnson & The Lovemakers
"Sacramento rapper Hobo Johnson had already released two albums of quirky, affable, pop-infused hip-hop when a live video for his song, "Peach Scone," went viral in 2018 as part of NPR's Tiny Desk Contest. Riding a wave of newfound recognition, he issued his third album, The Fall of Hobo Johnson, the following year.

Johnson was born Frank Lopes in 1996. As a teen, he was kicked out of his family home and lived in his car for a time, adopting the nickname Hobo Johnson. While working at a pizza place, sleeping in his Toyota Corolla, and showering at a nearby gym, Lopes, just 19 at the time, developed his musical persona. He crafted songs with sincere themes about chasing love and relationships and dealing with everyday trials and failures. In 2015 he relocated to Oak Park, California and released debut album 1994 Toyota Corolla, followed in 2017 with The Rise of Hobo Johnson.

In March 2018, along with a band of friends, Hobo Johnson released a video online for the song "Peach Scone," participating in NPR's Tiny Desk submissions contest. The video quickly went viral, collecting millions of views in a few short weeks. The online interest in the project shot The Rise of Hobo Johnson into the Billboard charts, and the album reached number 11 on the Heatseekers list. In June 2019, Johnson returned with the single "Typical Story" and embarked on an extensive North American tour that autumn in support of his third album, The Fall of Hobo Johnson." - Fred Thomas, AllMusic
