Wow in the World Pop Up Party
Wow in the World Pop Up Party
The Wow in the World Pop-Up Party brings this insanely popular program OUT in the World where they weave STEM-themed interactive games and foley-infused comedy skits between science themed songs from the Pop Ups, three-time Grammy nominees and creators of the “Wow in the World” theme song. Sketches and interactive games are inspired by topics from Wow in the World and bring Wowzers from the audience on stage to be lab-assistants and game show contestants. This highly interactive show will engage curious kids and their grown-ups in science, wonder, imagination, and music and leave them all saying “WOW”
Launched in May 2017, Wow in the World is a podcast for curious kids and their grown-ups that leads listeners on a journey away from their screens, inside their brain, out into space, and deep into the coolest new stories in science, technology, and innovation. Distributed by NPR, Wow in the World marks the first show for kids in the public broadcaster’s 47-year history. Hosts Guy Raz (NPR’s Ted Radio Hour, How I Built This) and Mindy Thomas (SiriusXM’s Kid’s Place Live) weave a character-driven and humor heavy narrative around the latest stories from peer-reviewed scientific journals about incredibly cool things happening in the world right now. Stories that spark listeners’ sense of wonder, ignite their curiosity and often cause endless belly-laughs. Stories that make kids excited about the world and their place in it. Stories that prompt both kids and grown-ups lean in and say, “Wow!”
Wow in the World has introduced hundreds of thousands of weekly listeners to the who, what, where, how and wow of Two-Headed Space Worms, Chocolate Forests in South America, CRISPR, and Contagious Laughter. Each 20-25 minute episode ends with an array of listener submissions sharing the wows in their world, like “Ostriches eyeballs are bigger than their brains and I think that’s bonkerballs”, “I saw an ant carrying a spider” and “I can remember everything on your show because my brain works differently than other people’s because I have Asperser’s.”
Wow in the World is a prime example of the rising popularity of both audio content and screen-free entertainment for children with over 20 million downloads since its debut in May 2017. Wow in the World has been recognized as the leader in the emerging kids podcast industry by The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Guardian, The Huffington Post, continually top the charts for kids & family podcasts and has won numerous awards including Parent’s Choice Award, KAPI Innovative Children’s Media Award and the NYF’s International Radio Award for Best Children/Young Adult Program. Wow has a loyal and engaged community with thousands of families in their paid membership program (The World Organization of Wowzers) and wows students in over two thousand classrooms through donated memberships to Title I classrooms via a partnership with Firstbook.org.

About Mindy Thomas:
Mindy Thomas is Tinkercast’s Chief Creative Tinkerer and Co-Creator of Wow in the World. Mindy has been wowing listeners weekday mornings for the last 16 years on SiriusXM’s Kid’s Place Live Channel where she hosts the Absolutely Mindy Show and where she served as Program Director for ten years. She’s proven that kid’s programming can be smart, interesting, and compelling for both children and adults without sacrificing an ounce of silliness. She talks to imaginary friends (her listeners), sends kids on incredible imaginary adventures by flushing them down her “Portal Potty”, and has the super ability to keep children and adults laughing together on their morning commutes. Mindy is a Gracie Award winning host and known as an expert and advocate for children’s literature and independent family music. She has hosted live events for Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Children’s Miracle Network, and Life is Good and conducted thousands of interviews with everyone from The Muppets to Julie Andrews.
When she’s not living out her childhood dreams ‘playing radio’, she’s exploring the world with her husband and two curious and creative kids. She loves the outdoors, especially kayaking, hiking, and backpacking. She started an adventure club for moms called The Action Adventure Girls Club and she’s even jumped out of a plane on a skydiving adventure! She has no plans of ever growing up.

About The Pop Ups:
A collaboration between Brooklyn musicians Jason Rabinowitz and Jacob Stein, The Pop Ups have been setting the standard for children’s music since 2010. Their most recent album, Giants of Science, won their third GRAMMY Nomination for Best Children's Album, a Parent's Choice Gold Award, and had two #1 singles on Sirius XM Radio. "Time," the second single, was debuted by Billboard. They are currently developing a new kids TV show with Amazon Studios, and are the musical partners with NPR's first podcast for kids, Wow in the World with Guy Raz and Mindy Thomas. The Pop Ups continue to tour nationally, have headlined the kids stages at Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, SSX, and with Yo Gabba Gabba Live. Their albums have won National Parenting Publications Award, Parents’ Choice Awards and praise from NPR's All Things Considered, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and USA Today among others.
